Although I wonder what Machiavelli's reaction would be....
(I praise them and get rid of the mouse when they aren't looking, for example.)
And, to echo what everyone else has said, I love the details. You're use of shading and different material in the clothes enhances the lines, and especially in the clothes. The subtlety is amazing. The blurred stars in the background are nice too, accounting for the light source (a fire, a candle?)
...and I bet Machiavelli has orange cat fur stuck in the thread of his clothes. ^.^ I love it.
