Breaking Free

This piece is a companion (or rather, a redo) to "Chain Linked" [link] which I did a long while ago. In that last piece, I described how I saw Desmond in the earlier games as a weaker man being dragged around. No one cared about him, they only cared about Altair and Ezio. And in this respect, Desmond was forever chained to his fate by the actions of his ancestors...

... AC3 made me see Desmond in a newer light. He seemed stronger, more determined. He was also standing up for himself and making his own decisions. To me, Desmond in AC3 was breaking away from the chains of his ancestors. Yes, he was still entangled in the whole fiasco, but he became more of a leader when it came to the decision of his fate. Abstergo was no longer forcing him to do things. He was no longer somewhat blindly following orders from Lucy, Shaun, or Rebecca. Desmond was acting on his own will and was no longer limited or outdone by his ancestors. To me, he was finally an equal to Altair, Ezio, and Connor. And the beauty of it all is that his ancestors helped him get to this stronger position...

... and then... well, you know how it goes from there.

_{I did not include Edward as I do not feel familiar with that character yet nor do I know if he's even involved with Desmond, despite his being an ancestor to him. Sorry.}

I was never able to work on this piece all the way through or even for a long time. I was only able to work on it for a few minutes at a time in between school work and such, and because of this, I think I sort of started hating it. Then there was that moment that I seriously felt like I forgot how to draw. But after picking it up again this past week, I think I just remembered why I consider this one of my top hobbies. I had forgotten how to have fun with it, but now I remember. I still have mixed feelings about this piece, but I hope you all like it, despite how late it is
